Die Astrophysikerin Dr. Julia Thalmann vom Institut für Physik (Arbeitsgruppe Physik der Sonne und der Heliosphäre) der Universität Graz gewinnt den internationalen Alexander Chizhevsky Preis für Space Weather and Space Climate 2016. Die Alexander Chizhevsky Medaille wird einmal pro Jahr an einen jungen Wissenschafter bzw. Wissenschafterin für herausragende Ergebnisse in den Forschungsbereichen Weltraumwetter und Weltraumklima vergeben.
Thalmann wird für ihre herausragenden Beiträge zur numerischen Modellierung des Magnetfeldes in der Sonnenatmosphäre im Kontext solarer Eruptionen ausgezeichnet. Die Preisverleihung wird am 14. November 2016 im Rahmen der European Space Weather Week in Ostende (Belgien) stattfinden.
