Faszination Astronomie

Astrophysiker Arnold Hanslmeier präsentiert populärwissenschaftliches Buch über unser Universum

Am Anfang stand seine Vorlesung „Einführung in die Astrophysik für Studierende aller Fakultäten“. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Arnold Hanslmeier begeistert an der Uni Graz seit einigen Semestern bis zu 400 Studierende mit seinen Ausführungen über das Universum. „Die Astronomie übt auf Menschen eine große Faszination aus“, begründet Hanslmeier das große Interesse. „Astronomie ist eine Wissenschaft, die an die Grenzen geht.“
Was lag also näher, die Vorlesung zu einem populärwissenschaftlichen Buch zusammenzufassen. Der Sonnenforscher vermittelt in der reich bebilderten Publikation, die kürzlich im Springer-Verlag erschienen ist, astronomische Kenntnisse für alle Interessierten leicht und allgemein verständlich.

Das Werk beginnt mit der Beschreibung des Ursprungs des Universums thematisiert schwarze Löcher und schließt mit der Frage: Sind wir alleine im Universum?
Auch weitere physikalische Phänomene werden anschaulich beschrieben. Formeln und tiefer in die Materie gehende Textpassagen sind extra ausgewiesen und können, ohne den Zusammenhang zu verlieren, übersprungen werden.
Hanslmeier: „Physik, insbesondere Astrophysik kann extrem spannend sein. Ich hoffe, die LeserInnen gewinnen durch die Lektüre dieses Buches diesen Eindruck!“

Arnold Hanslmeier ist Professor für Astrophysik an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz und Leiter der Arbeitsgruppe für Astrophysik am Institut für Physik. Neben mehr als 400 wissenschaftlichen Veröffentlichungen, darunter auch mehrere Fachbücher, widmet er sich sehr stark der populär verständlichen Verbreitung der faszinierenden Wissenschaft Astrophysik. Hanslmeier hält Vorlesungen an der Universität Graz sowie im Rahmen von Gastprofessuren auch an den Universitäten in Toulouse, Wien und Innsbruck sowie La Laguna, Teneriffa.

Two Awards for an Outstanding Dissertation

Andreas Windischbacher received two prestigious awards for his outstanding doctoral dissertation. NanoGraz Careers & Ideas Days 2025: Career paths after the doctorate

On October 13 and 14, the consortium NanoGraz of the Research Career Campus at the University of Graz organized a two-day event to inform the consortium's doctoral students about their career options after completing their doctorate. In addition to exciting lectures by early-career researchers as well as representatives from industry, the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), and the research management of the University of Graz, a brainstorming competition took place on the second day, in which the participants had the opportunity to develop their own joint mini-projects.

Seed-Funding Grant: Bringing Ideas to Life Together

With the new OpNaQ Seed-Funding Grant, the OpNaQ Group, part of the Institute of Physics, lifts collaboration within the research group to a whole new level, and supports sub-groups in turning their ideas into concrete projects.
