We studied the dynamics of giant prominence tornados detected by the SDO/AIA (Solar Dynamic Observatory/ Atmospheric Imaging Assembly). From the detected tornadoes 48% erupted as Coronal Mass Ejections, 50% were active and only 2% disappeared without any noticeable activity. Therefore, almost all prominence tornados lead to the destabilization of their hosting prominences and half of them trigger CMEs. Consequently, prominence tornadoes may be used as precursors for CMEs and hence for space weather predictions.
