Department of Astrophysics and Geophysics
Of the sun, earth and atmosphere
A meteorological station has been operated at the University of Graz since 1836. The Atmospheric and Climate Physics research group operates a semi-automatic weather station in cooperation with GeoSphere Austria (formerly the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics). In addition, high-quality radiation measurements are carried out at the University of Graz and at the Kanzelhöhe observatory in cooperation with GeoSphere Austria.
The sun is our closest star and makes life on our planet Earth possible. The Astrophysics and Solar Physics research groups study the magnetic activity of our sun and other stars and how they influence the environment of planets in the solar system and exoplanets. The group operates the Kanzelhöhe Observatory for Solar and Environmental Research and the Lustbühel Observatory in Graz.
