Am 10. Mai konnten Polarlichter in der Steiermark beobachtet werden.

Die von Arnold Hanslmeier aufgenommene riesige Sonnenfleckengruppe erreichte etwa eine Ausdehnung von 100 000 km (was einem Viertel der Distanz Erde-Mond entspricht). In dieser komplexen Fleckengruppe kam es zu Umkonfigurationen der Magnetfeldstrukturen und zu sehr intensiven Flareausbrüchen. Diese Ausbrüche erreichten auch die Erde und konnten am 10. Mai auch in unseren Breiten als rötlich scheinende Polarlichter gesehen werden.
