Neuer Asteroid entdeckt

Am 10. Juni 2012 wurde ein erdnaher Asteroid (2012 LZ1) enddeckt.

Der erdnahe Asteroid 2012 LZ1 wurde in der Nacht vom 10. auf den 11. Juni 2012 am Siding Springs Observatorium in Australien von R.H. McNaught entdeckt.

Am 14. Juni flog er in einer Entfernung von 5.4 Millionen km (14-fache Mondentfernung) an der Erde vorbei. Mit einem Durchmesser von ca. 500 Meter zählt er zu den potenziell gefhrlichen Asteroiden, von denen derzeit 1313 bekannt sind.

Durch seine Größe und Nähe wurde der Asteroid bis zu 13 Größenklassen hell. Damit konnte er zwar nicht mit dem freien Auge aber doch mit kleineren Teleskopen und einer CCD Kamera beobachtet werden. Eine Herausforderung bei der Beobachtung war die große Geschwindigkeit mit der der Asteroid seine Bahn über den Himmel zog.

Beobachtungen des Asteroiden gelangen am 15. Juni auch mit dem 30 cm BMK Teleskop am Observatorium Lustbühel.
