Paul Urban Scholarship Foundation for Theoretical Physics at the Karl Franzens University Graz

Scholarships

§ 9.

(1)  A prerequisite for the granting of a scholarship from the Foundation to students and staff of the Institute is that

a) the applicant is either pursuing a diploma or doctoral program in the field of "Theoretical Physics" at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Karl-Franzens-University and, within the framework of this program, has written or completed a diploma thesis or dissertation accepted for supervision by a university lecturer of the Institute of Physics, whereby the sponsorship or doctorate may not have been completed more than four years ago at the time of application, or the applicant is an employee of the Institute. doctorate may not be more than four years old at the time of application, or the applicant is a member of staff of the Institute specializing in "Theoretical Physics" and his/her sponsorship or doctorate may not be more than four years old at the time of application, and

b) it appears desirable in the context of the applicant's scientific activities that he/she attends scientific meetings abroad in order to present the results of his/her research there, or that he/she spends a research stay of no more than four months at an institution abroad with which a research cooperation exists or is to be initiated.

(2) A prerequisite for the granting of a scholarship from the Foundation to foreign scientists for the financing of guest stays at the Institute of a maximum of one month each is that

a) the applicant is scientifically proven,

b) his/her stay at the institute serves a concrete joint research project, and

c) a collaboration with the guest already exists or is planned for the longer term.

§ 10.

Applications for scholarships from the Foundation may also be submitted by the applicant him/herself.

§ 11.

(1)  The amount to be paid out for the scholarships from the Foundation is to be determined by the Foundation Committee at the beginning of each calendar year and announced in the official gazette of the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz. It is to be ensured that the amount is divided as evenly as possible between scholarships for students or members of the institute and external scientists.

(2)  Scholarships will be disbursed as needed based on a detailed cost report provided by the applicant.

(3)  A scholarship paid out must be repaid in full or on a pro rata basis if the recipient completes only part of his/her planned stay or if he/she is reimbursed in full or in part for the costs by another party.

(4) After the end of the stay, the fellowship recipient must submit a written report on his/her scientific activities during this stay to the Foundation Committee within one month.
