Teaching vignettes for working with Arduino in teacher education

The field of physics education focuses, among other things, on how pre-service teachers can be supported in using digital media effectively in science education. One area of research specifically addresses digital data acquisition using Arduino microcontrollers.

In the article “Teaching vignettes for working with Arduino in science teacher education,” published in the Journal of Physics: Conference Series, Angelika Bernsteiner, Thomas Schubatzky, Philipp Spitzer and Claudia Haagen-Schützenhöfer investigate how pre-service teachers can be prepared to work with Arduino in the classroom. Teaching vignettes were developed based on authentic classroom situations. These vignettes serve as learning opportunities that allow pre-service teachers to reflect on teaching and learning processes from a teacher’s perspective.

The use of these teaching vignettes was investigated within the context of a university course. The results indicate that teaching vignettes can make a valuable contribution to teacher education, particularly with regard to reflecting on classroom processes and addressing self-efficacy expectations related to the use of digital media.
