Chair of the ESO-working group of the Austrian Society for Astronomy and Astrophysics (ÖGAA)
After Austria joined ESO more than a decade ago, the local community mainly focused on the classical fashioned standard observing proposals. Then ELT instrument proposals came up. But ESO is a much wider science opportunity, not seen so much. Moreover ESO is continuing critical changes in its policy, despite the requests of delays by parts of the community for these steps for the time after the difficult situation during the pandemic. This talk will thus try to give an overview about possibilities, and upcoming changes and is intended also to give a discussion forum with the upcoming junior scientists for their way into the issues.
