Electrochemical scanning-probe-system

For in-situ studies of solid-liquid interfaces we perform electrochemical studies on well-ordered oxide surfaces. Single-crystalline FeO and Fe3O4 films are grown in an ultrahigh vacuum machine (see picture 1) on a Pt substrate and subsequently transferred into air or brought into contact with aqueous solutions. The stability of the oxide layers in these environments is tested and their electrochemical properties are characterized by cyclic voltammetry. The surface morphology and potential-dependent  surface structure changes are investigated in-situ by electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy (see picture 2).
